My
sincerest condolences to the Jackson family.
Hopefully the untimely loss of Michael Jackson
will provide the strength for others to continue
to pursue their dreams. In my opinion
Michael Jackson was the worlds greatest
performer. The Jackson family has given us
years of great music and great performances.
History has proven that
the performance defines the performer. Today
many people feel they can grab a microphone and
walk back and forth across a stage uttering
gibberish that has no intrinsic value and
consider themselves a Rap Artist. Others
think they can sing and have Auto Tune make them
a star. Even the music industry has retreated
from investing in an Artist Development.
I'm amazed that some
people still wonder why Radio and Television
won't play their music when they don't even
understand how Radio or TV work. They honestly
expect these mediums to sacrifice their
audiences for an unknown who hasn't even built a
worthwhile story. They don't know that the
fundamentals of advertising, research, and a
good product make up the service they enjoy.
I've heard so many
people say they can distribute their music on
Myspace, Itunes, and Ioda and keep all the
money. I agree, you could distribute your
product on those sites and keep all the money
but you will have to do all the work. You
will have to market your product. You will
have to establish relationships with Radio, TV,
Video, Magazines, Newspapers, and other power
players in the industry. Let's not forget
negotiating and signing contracts when
opportunities arise. Do you know all the legal
jargon involved in every type of contract? Once
your music is on one of these sites you still
have to draw people to the site to purchase.
When will you have time to be the artist?
When will you have time for family? When will
you have time for self?
The reality is you have
to pay your dues and learn the system. As you
grow put together a good team of REAL people who
will be honest with you. Ensure they know the
area they specialize in. Most importantly pay
them (on time) for their services. The entertainment
business consists of a group of people who have
known each other for years. You never know who
someone knows. The worse thing you want is
your project tossed in the trash because you
hurt a friend of someone you don't even know.
Today's technology makes it possible to destroy
a career with a
single email, text, or tweet.
I believe you will see more and more
established acts becoming independent when their
contracts expire. They will hire a marketing &
promotions team. Since they are established they
will get distribution easier than someone that
is not established. They have a fan base so they
can make a decent profit from sales,
merchandising, and touring.
I want to thank the
clients I have worked with in the past for the
opportunity to work with you. Each one of
my clients has taught me something and I
continue to learn on a daily basis. I want to
introduce you to the clients I am working with
now and have secured their distribution deals
with Soundcheck, Inc. They understand and have
accepted the challenge of success! Are you ready
to accept the challenge? |
